TOOHEY FOREST WILDFLOWERS

 The Picnic Creek walk had to be changed as the Daves Creek and Ballanjui Falls area of Lamington National Park is closed as there is a notice of a planned burn off in the area. (the burn off may or may not happen but we can’t risk doing the walk there). Apologies for any inconvenience. (a thank you to Sue Walsh who advised me of this park alert).

So the replacement wildflower walk is Toohey Forest which is a remnant patch of bushland in the middle of suburbia. This wildflower walk was last done in August 2018. We will start the walk on the western side of the forest and walk through to the eastern side and ascend Mt Gravatt.

Catch #120 bus to  Stop 44/48 Toohey Rd and walk 800 metres to the car park.

The main purpose of the day is to look for and identify the wildflowers. In particular we should see many pea flowers, several wattles and a few boronias. I intend to have first morning tea near the Nathan campus. We will also have a quick look at the university grounds and zip up to Mt Gravatt to enjoy the views over Brisbane. I intend to have second morning tea up there. And have a light lunch at Simsons Chair on the way back.

Although it is an easy wildflower walk there are still a few hills and gullies to wander up and down.  Make sure you bring the usual day-walk stuff. Because of the early start the expected finish time is 1.00 ish. So there is no need to bring a big lunch.

It is a nice little walk in the heart of Brisbane and is worth the effort to get out and see the bush and the little wildflower treasures.
