The walk commences at The Gap Park ‘n Ride at the later, civilised (post-Christmas) time of 8.00am, with walkers choosing between public transport or a private vehicle to reach our starting point.

The focus of this daywalk will be to enjoy the scenic bushland that surrounds Enoggera Creek and to explore a few of the nearby Mt Coot-tha Reserve tracks and trails. It has been designed as a circuit to avoid the hassles of catching public transport on a public holiday. Many of you will probably feel ready for a relatively easy walk after the merry celebrations of Christmas, catching up with Club members, happy to weather the hot conditions that are typical of the Boxing Day holiday and content to miss Day 1 of the Ashes Test cricket from the MCG.

Much of this trek is along graded cement path or bushland track, with minor obstacles. We shall walk from Bill Fursman Place following the bush track that rarely strays too far from the attractive Enoggera Creek. Most of this track is flat with minor creek crossings and ups and downs. Eventually, we will meet the Enoggera Creek Bikeway, passing the Riaweena Street Park and Illowra Street Park. Local landmarks such as The Gap State High School, The Gap Shopping Village and the Ashgrove Golf Club are close to our journey by the creek. Much of this part of the walk along the creek is through beautiful, shaded natural vegetation, with much regeneration being undertaken by bushcare groups.

A return to bikeways and bush tracks follows a short journey along Waterworks Road. Upon arriving at Chandler’s Corner, we will head up to Sunset Park for morning tea. Perhaps an opportunity to share some Christmas fare. A change of scenery and forest will follow as we move through the Mt Coot-tha Reserve along sections of the Boobook Trail, the Tallowood Trail and the Kulgun Circuit before completing the entire Paten Road Track onto Paten Road itself. Some of these trails are uneven and steep, particularly the Kulgun Circuit. The vegetation and terrain along these trails is open and hot, so lots of water, sunscreen and protection are recommended.

Following a brief walk along Paten Road, we will return to the shady bikeway beside the creek for a return trip to the Enoggera Reservoir.

Some of you will have already experienced some or all of the Enoggera Creek paths and tracks of this daywalk, but it is the perfect opportunity for a relaxing walk after Christmas Day.

Come and join me on this journey along Enoggera Creek and a short detour through the Mt Coot-tha Reserve. It is likely to be humid but much of the trip is shady and covered. Come prepared, however, for some exposed, hilly, steep tracks that will need the usual summer daily requirements.
