This walk is at the Lamington National Park at the Binna Burra Lodge as part of the BWQ Annual Pilgrimage. It will commence at the Binna Burra trailhead and proceed along the Border Track until we reach the Daves Creek Circuit/Ships Stern Circuit turnoff.

Our party will proceed in an anticlockwise direction along the Ships Stern Circuit Track. It is a very scenic, graded path although there is a bit of uphill walking later in the day. The walk is mainly through rainforest but as we move to the top of Ships Stern Range, the terrain transforms into dry, open eucalypt forest with an understorey of wildflowers and some evidence of past bushfires.

Following the track to the Ships Stern Range proper, we’ll see many side tracks that lead to prominent viewpoints and lookouts including Burrawang, Gorooburra and Milleribah – all showcase the beauty of the range with magnificent views of Numinbah Valley.

The views are impressive when we reach the Kooloobano Lookout. It’s a great spot to stop for lunch overlooking the Kurraragin Valley with Turtle Rock and Egg Rock the most prominent features. The group will return along the same track to the Border Track and Binna Burra.

The weather is great for winter walking so please bring the usual daywalk equipment, plus at least 2 litres of water as it will possibly be warm. Please ensure that you have a raincoat and if you are a daywalker, a change of clothes for the end of the walk. Be sure to have sufficient food and water for a full day of walking. I would like to start walking by 8.30am and prefer to do the walk at a reasonable pace.
