Similar to last year, we will be enjoying a couple of lovely nights at the club hut, beside Mt Barney Creek and do some great off-track walks. Technically this is a walk-in basecamp.
There will be an early afternoon departure on Friday, so we can arrive at the hut before dark. There is a 4.5kms trail into the hut from the Lower Portals car park. There are 6 bunks inside the hut or you can erect a tent outside. Bring sleeping mats. We will light the stove, as it will be cold.
Saturday’s walk is a circuit, where we will cross Mt May creek and climb Paddy’s Peak. Then follow the eucalypt forested ridge line west to Mt May (climbing both peaks). Then descend towards Cleared Ridge, where we will pick up a fire trail that leads back towards the hut.
Sunday, will be a half day walk to either Barney Falls or the Gorge junction. This will entail rock hopping along Barney Creek. I expect water levels to be low, so should be straight forward going.
Please bring the usual gear for day walks. This is a great opportunity to stay at the hut, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. Call me to discuss.
