This Stroll continues our Oxley Creek journey from Greenbank to Oxley. Oxley Creek was first known as Benarrawa, then named the creek the 'Canoe Creek' by John Oxley in recognition of the first Europeans to reach the creek, Thomas Pamphlett, John Finnegan, Richard Parsons.

Oxley Ck has always been a hard-working creek. Sustaining indigenous life for millennia, it quickly became the lifeblood of colonial Brisbane. Sand & cobbles from the creek paved the first streets while timber cut from the banks raised the city that followed. Farms on the floodplain fed the growing colony as factories set the foundation for the city's thriving economy. This area was used by various industries from timber logging & sawmills, brickworks & sand quarries to agricultural land for cattle, sheep, pigs, sugar, cotton, maize and potatoes.

Your Stroll today does not start where #1 finished, but on the other side of the Creek. There is some suburbia, however the terrain is mainly parks, reserves, bush and natural country. The Creek has been “industrialised” by sand & gravel extraction (which continues even to this day) so we have to give them a wide berth.

The Council has not built a trail all the way along our creek, so it is hard to stay near it. You shall be going in & out of the bush and suburbia along the way. You may even follow the incorrect creek for a bit. There is a 20m up just after the beginning and also at the end as we leave the creek to get to our bus stop.

This should be a nice Autumnal Stroll through the cool of the afternoon, so why not join me and the “regular” Strollers on this journey of discovery.
