This is your one big chance to attend a Barney Mass; this year only, it is being held beside the cars at Yellowpinch Day Use Area, where there are shady trees and toilets.
Mass will be celebrated at 9.30am. Our priest will be Fr Michael Grace. All members and visitors are welcome. Please bring a picnic chair to sit on at the Mass and don’t forget to tone up your voices for singing hymns. After Mass, we will have Morning Tea and then set out for Cronan’s Cascades.
The Cronan Creek track is a popular bushwalk that provides a rewarding journey into the tranquil, rugged foothills of Mount Barney National Park. The track follows a wide, well-maintained trail, much of which is an old road, offering a gentle grade suitable for groups. This used to be the coach road to the gap between Mt Lindesay & Mt Barney through Collins Gap, onwards to Woodenbong & Urbenville. Horses pulled wagons & carriages along it, so this track is not very steep.
The track's length and steady elevation-gain require some level of fitness and a little endurance, though most of our members can make it. Walkers will enjoy several picturesque creek crossings, which are a highlight, but be prepared for wet feet. The final stretch to the beautiful falls can become slightly overgrown, offering a peaceful destination for a lunch break. The area sits beneath the dramatic West Peak of Mt Barney, a striking feature of this biodiverse region.
The track to the Cascades is within the capability of most Club members and walkers.
Bring your normal day-walking gear, weather protection, plenty of water - and lunch.
NB Vehicle access beyond Yellowpinch is not possible; it’s walkers only beyond that.
