Our annual Reflection Morning will be something a bit different in 2026, as it’s a year in which the Season of Creation, celebrated in September by Christians everywhere, focused on the theme of Living Water. Since our city is built around a beautiful river, affectionately known as The Brown Snake, and since we’re a walking club, it seemed most appropriate to design a Reflective Riverwalk with a focus on ‘Immersion in Living Water’ (Ezekiel 47: 9-12) as our ‘Retreat’ for this year. Acting on a suggestion from a Club member, I have asked a member of the Archdiocesan Ministries team to facilitate this unique Retreat.u

We’ll meet for a riverside coffee at the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) café first and at the City Botanical Gardens café for lunch afterwards, but on the way, between those two, we’ll be reflective, focussing on Living Water, both the river and the scriptures – and what they have to teach us. Our reflection will be guided by a resource prepared initially by Sr Mary Tinney rsm and Louise Scott and subsequently re-worked by these two, with Emma Beach of Archdiocesan Ministries (Justice, Ecology & Peace Project Officer) and myself. On the day, we will be led by Emma.

(Revised)Times for the day will be roughly: 8am for Coffee at the GOMA Bistro; 8:45am Gathering on the riverfront outside GOMA; 10:45am Final Reflection; 11am Late Morning Tea/early Lunch at The Gardens Club in the City Botanical Gardens.

(An optional add-on, after lunch, could be a free 50-minute guided walking tour of the City Botanical Gardens at 1pm with a Brisbane Greeter guide – to explore and wonder at more of God’s creation!)

Cost is not yet finalised but is likely to be just $5 per head, payable on the day. Nominations will be called for in October’s Jilalan. Please save the date and plan to be there if at all possible!
