I can highly recommend this trip as it has absolutely gorgeous views and lovely secluded beaches, especially White’s Beach where there is a cave. There is some walking around a few rock shelfs to make it interesting. And we have to walk up 2 very short uphill sections. The rock hopping requires care as we need sturdy shoes and I also suggest garden gloves as the rocks have gnarly edges. In total the rock hopping is only about 20 minutes.
Leaving Red Hill at 6.30 am it is a 2 hour and 2 minute drive – distance 177 km. I plan on having a morning tea stop at the Chinderah Service Centre. So I expect to start walking just before 9.30 ish to allow the tide to drop before we go around the rocks. The plan is to drive down to Suffolk Park (just south of Byron Bay) and park at the end of Clifford Street and start the walk there and then walk south to Broken Head (1.5 km), then do track walk around Broken Head (800 m), then a rock hopping section for 300 m, to Kings Beach (about 300 m long), then rock hopping between beaches (600 m) to Brays Beach (about 400 m long), then up the stairs to road, then a track to the headland (300 m), then down ridge - 100 m to White’s Beach. Then return via the road or the coast. Total Distance about 13 Km
Come along on a lovely trip with magnificent views, lots of beach walking and bush walking. The Club has only this walk once before back in 2015. As a side note a photo of White’s Beach was selected as the winner of the photo comp for the 2015 year. I hope you can join us as it could be years and years before we do this trip again as it is a long way from Brisbane. It is a long way there but better to do it now while you can. For those interested there will be time for a quick swim at White’s beach during our lunch break. Low Tide is at 1:01 pm and is 0.40 metres.
A quick update the proposed trip to Whites Beach on 30th November was cancelled due to heavy rain in Brisbane area. The highway was not real safe. Of note is that Cape Byron received 97 mm of rain that day. The irony is that no rain fell during the hours of 9.30 am and 3 pm but there was heaps of rain around the Brisbane and the Gold Coast when we would have been driving back
