Thorneside is where Farmer Thorne built his own railway siding so his produce could get to market quickly. The siding has gone but the name remains
Thorneside is a little lost & forgotten triangle of suburbia cut off from the rest of the bayside suburbs because of the train line – you just can’t easily get to it. Thus, it is quite and underdeveloped. Though a backwater, the old cottages are, alas, gone and modern homes are in their place. You may still see some old gems from eras past.
You will get to see both types of waterscapes – Tingalpa Creek and Waterloo Bay; looking northwards to Green Is, St Helena Is, with Fisherman Is/Port of Brisbane in the distance – Manly on the left and King Is on the right framing this natural portrait.
There is a lot of Bay to see as you wander along the shoreline amongst the shrubs shading you. The Bay shoreline goes in & out here, with a large low lying coastal habitat (a swamp) and further to the east, a canal estate (that probably was once a low-lying coastal habitat.) This Stroll will stride into this canal estate to see the wonderful spectacular homes situated on the banks and to drool over the cruisers moored behind them. Is character building to occasionally see how the other half lives.
This Stroll is completely in suburbia, following streets & paths through parks and along the shore. Watch the sun set over water. Watch the birds go to sleep. Watch the people coming home from work. Come along on this Stroll along the shoreline of our great Bay.
