This will be a good flat Stroll initially through some back streets, then along several bike paths, and on the grass beside some bike-only paths, and finally on grassy verges of the airport roads. There won’t be much shade, I’m afraid.

Being a Rail Series Stroll, the aim is to follow, as close as possible, the rail line which branches off at Eagle Junction to end at the Domestic Terminal. The route takes you from the Station through a few suburban back streets to the old Toombul Shopping Centre lower carpark (the on that used to flood a lot and drown cars) – the birk path is still there to use. This path continues beside Kedron Brood beyond the old Shopping Centre site and, to get a better experience, you cross under the raised line and head over Airport Dr to enter the “services” area to the east of the approach road.

Once inside the airport precinct, the footpath goes up past all those warehouses you do not know about, then cross the grass to the International Terminal. From here, follow the path across to the Kingsford-Smith memorial (pop in and see the Southern Cross) before Strolling beside the bike path, cross the road again to walk under the raised train line towards the Domestic Terminal, where we cease. Stop for a coffee??

And you too can observe my obsession while out Strolling – stopping and looking at the planes flying over low. Sheer heaven.

After doing the 13km, I do not think many of us will want to Stroll back to DFO to catch a bus back to civilisation – it will be a few more km. Better to suffer the expense and catch the Airtrain back to Eagle Junction, Roma Street or beyond.

This one is must-do if you want to complete the Rail Series of Strolls.
